Four Victims Wounded at Howe Community Park Sacramento — Unlawful Gathering Ends in Shooting
Late Saturday evening, an unsanctioned event of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade neighborhood turned violent when upwards of 20 gunshots rang out as law enforcement officers were actively breaking up the gathering.
How It Unfolded
Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department received reports regarding subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at the park. A second caller advised of a possible physical altercation and subjects running away.
Aerial units was sent to the area and surveyed the area from above but could not find any physical confrontation.
However, a large crowd had come together at Howe Community Park for what the sheriff's office identified as an unauthorized gathering. Officers set up around the park, illuminated the area with emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes commanding the crowd to clear out via loudspeaker announcements.
As officers worked to clear the park, between 20 and 25 shots were fired — sending the crowd scattering in a panic.
Shooting Victims
Four victims — one female and three males, all in their 20s — were taken to nearby hospitals. The incident occurred on the Cottage Way side side of the park adjacent to the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down.
